Βιβλιογραφικό σημείο αναφοράς στην αρχαιολογική έρευνα της κεντρικής Μακεδονίας. Ο Γάλλος αρχαιολόγος L. Rey με τη γαλλική αρχαιολογική αποστολή προχώρησε στην τοπογραφική αποτύπωση των προϊστορικών τουμπών, διεξάγοντας μικρής κλίμακας ανασκαφές σε αρκετές από αυτές. Διατύπωσε παρατηρήσεις σχετικά με την τοπογραφία, τις διαδικασίες σχηματισμού, τη διάρκεια και τη χρονολόγηση των τουμπών, ενώ προχώρησε και στη διάκριση μεταξύ προϊστορικών (Τούμπες) και ιστορικών (Τράπεζες) γήλοφων με βάση τα μορφολογικά τους χαρακτηριστικά.  Πλούσια εικονογράφηση με φωτογραφίες των περιοχών κατά τις αρχές του αιώνα, σε συνδυασμό με λεπτομερή τοπογραφικά και αρχαιολογικά σχέδια.

The volume published postwar by archaeologist Léon Rey, along with the corresponding reports of British archaeologist officers. Detailed descriptions of the excavated prehistoric sites and finds, and conclusions about prehistoric research conducted on the Macedonian front, are enlightening evidence for both the less obvious fronts of war and alliances and the history of Archeology: For example, it impresses, in addition to focusing on stratigraphic reading, the way in which the military-archaeologists in service represent the course of the pre-historic man from the north to the shores of Macedonia: Instead of the historical terms of the latter, on the map with the network of prehistoric places now the geopolitical attitudes of the warring European forces in Macedonia and the Balkan peninsula, their relationship with the Aegean and the East are being monitored.
