Weigel Christoph, “Tabula Topographica Athenarum veterum et novarum“, c. 1719. A nice topographic plan of the city of Athens and the immediate surrounding areas (today the center of the city). All major edifices are represented and labeled, as are the ancient walls which encircled the city, remains of which still existed at the time the map was published. Dim. 32 x 41,5 cm. The map is based in Coronelli’s plan of Athens, prepared after the Venetian conquest of Athens. Coronelli’s plan is based, in the reality, in the Cappucins map of Athens of 1672, the first accurate drawing of the city. Framed.
