KIRCHER Athanasius, “Mappa Maris Mediterranei Fluxus Currentes Et Naturum Motionum Explicans”, 1696. From the “Specula Physico-Mathematico-Historica”, the rare illustrated compendium of mathematics and natural history by Johann Zahn, printed in Nuremberg 1696. The map is focusing on the Mediterranean Sea including the Black Sea and is considered as one of the first to present the Mediterranean’s sea currents. On the contrary the mainland is presented rather plain. Copper plate, dim. 36x42cm. Contemporary handwritten note on upper part. Not in Zacharakis.
