Text in French. Binding of the period, half leather bound (spine and corners) thick carton boards; slightly rubbed and bumped. Spotting throughout, however clean and tight inside; decorated page edges.

Jean Baptiste Racine (1639-1699) was one of the most important authors of French classical literature and one of the three great playwrights of 17th-century France, along with Moliere and Pierre Corneille. Racine had a strong influence on the French playwrights alongside and after him well into the 19th century.
