An authentic travelogue through the regions of Italy and Greece at early 19th century, aftet Williams extensive journey in the company of his friend and patron William Douglas of Orchardton MP. They visited Rome, Athens, Malta, Sicily, and Naples before returning to Edinburgh in 1818. This book earned him the name Grecian Williams, by which he is known. Written in the form of letters, and dedicated to his fellow landscape painter John Thomson of Duddingston, the illustrations were engraved by W. H. Lizars from drawings by the author. Contemporary polished calf, spines richly gilt, same on boards, generally sound. Marbled endpapers, pages to be browned or foxed, but clean and tight. Rare and Good copy.
