Louis Duret, born in 1527, was a renowned physicist, a fervent follower of the Hippocratic doctrine. He served Charles IX of France and his brother Henry III of France as their chief physician. His most famous work is the unpublished commentary on Hippocrates in 1588, which was finally finished and published by his son (Jean Duret) in 1631. Binding of the period, half calf bound (spine an corners), red morocco label with gilt title and nerve ornaments; visibly rubbed and bumped, signs of worm activity. Thick carton boards, medium worn. Clean and tigth inside, with scattered spotting and humidity stain at first 10 pages. Handwritten notes (pen) at first page. Good and Scarse copy.
