HECQUARD Hyacinthe, “Histoire et description de la Haute Albanie ou Guégarie”, Paris, Arthus Bertrand, [1863]. 8vo, pp. xvii, [3], 513, [3]. Handwritten dedication and signature of the author on half-title.

Leather spine, marbled thick paper boards. Without the folding map. External wear of the covers with evident signs of bumping areas. Spotting on first sheets, occasional thereafter.

Rare travelogue through Albania and Montenegro in the mid. 19th century undertaken by the French explorer and diplomat Hyacinthe Hecquard. Hecquard has travelled widely in northern Albania and Montenegro, describing in details the natural environment, the society, economy, costumes and traditions of these Balkan places and their people.
