LABORDE Comte Léon de, “Athènes aux XVe, XVIe et XVIIe siècles”, Paris, J. Renouard et Cie, 1854. 8vο, pp. XVIII, 276 + [4], 392.

FIRST EDITION. COMPLETE including 3 leaves reproducing a 1460 manuscript description of Athens and 22 plates of which 10 folding (6 attached on linen). Among the plates, it features a photographic plate (collotype), recognized as one of the earliest works to incorporate this medium.

The plates encompass the majority of drawings created for Athens between the 15th and 17th centuries, including early depictions of the Parthenon, such as Carrey’s pre-bombardment sketches. This work is still considered a very important reference for Athen’s history. [Atabey 643, Blackmer 932, Vicaire IV 775].

Contemporary binding: morocco spines & marbled carton boards. External rubbing and wear along joints – partly cracked. Some pencil notes inside, paper loss on lower right corner of 1 folding – short tear on another, extended spots on title pages with small loss of paper on title of vol.I.
