SWITZERLAND. Zürich. 1715. Verdienstmedaille or Wappenstaler of 1 1/2 Talers (Silver, 52.5 mm, 45.88 g, 12 h), signed by Hans Jakob Gessner. RESPVBLICA TIGVRINA Two lions standing opposite each other upon pedastals, reared up on their hind legs, the one on the left raising a sword in his right pay and the other, on the right, raising a palm branch; each supporting a cartouche containing the oval arms of Zurich; below, raised cartouche with the punched date 1715; below the lion on the left, signature of HG. Rev. NUMINE / PROPITIO / PATRIA / FLORET in four lines within a raised central circle, surrounded by two concentric rings of coats of arms. Schweizer Medaillen 233 (1714). Wunderly 844 (1714). Rare with the date 1715. Toned with a light reddish iridescence. Good extremely fine.
