Curzon Robert, “Armenia: a year at Erzeroum, and on the frontiers of Russia, Turkey and Persia”, John Murray, London, 1854. The rare First edition. 8vo, (20x13cm), pp.xiv,253,[7]. Complete with 5 wood engravings, one map and two illustrations in the text. Original purple cloth rubbed, small chipped parts on spine. Curzon was a British officer in mission during the definition of Turkish-Persian border in Eastern Armenia, an area mostly unexplored by Europeans at that time. He has passed through Trebisond, crossed the Pontian Alps and Gumushane in his way to Erzeroum. His work is of great importance for the thorough information on the Christian tribes of the area. One of the engravings, representing the port of Trebisond in 1850s is very precious for the topography of this area. Atabey 302, not in Blackmer.
