22.8.1936. Crash of the Scipio at Mirabella Bay. Commercial cover from Jerusalem to Berlin, posted to fly by Imperial Airways. The liner Scipio which operated the Mediterranean stage, crashed in the sea off Crete during a storm. All mail has been salvaged & carried to Athens. This cover was carried by rail to Germany, where in Munich, a printed stick-on label was affixed, stating that the cover was saved from the crash at Crete. Goddard 431.
