Chenavard was one of the founding members of the Société académique d'architecture de Lyon. He made several trips to Italy and Greece between 1843 and 1844 and was named correspondent of the Institute in 1855. This account provides detailed descriptions of Athens and the central Greece, Constantinople, the Ionian islands and Alexandria & Cairo of Egypt. Ex libris label "Andreae Granger". Leather spine with decorations in gilt, marbled boards. A clean, tight and very Fine copy. According to Brunet,this first edition has been printed in only 200 copies. Not in Atabey (Atabey 229 for the 1849 edition). Extremely rare.
