French cruiser "Waldeck-Rousseau" in Corfu 1916. Photographic album of 41 photographs of varying sizes, mainly 9x6cm. All photos attacheds on period cartons each with handwritten explanatory captions. After the outbreak of, Waldeck-Rousseau had actively participated in the French navy operations of World War I and on 8 January 1916, Waldeck-Rousseau embarked a contingent of Chasseurs Alpins (mountain troops) to seize the Greek island of Corfu. The cruisers sent the troops ashore on the night of 10 January. The current album is actually depicting that short period providing very interesting scenes of the French sailors & officers life as well as views of Corfu, locals & officials.
