Marsigli (1658-1730), an Italian educated noble, has traveled in the Levant in 1679, before captured in battle by the Turks in 1682. His long presence in the Ottoman Empire and his later diplomatic service, made him one of the very few Europeans with deep knowledge of the Levant countries. This important work on the military system of the Ottoman empire gives a full account of the finances, revenues, organizations, battle formations and military campaigns of the Ottomans. A very valuable source for the Levant in the early 18th century. Contemporary full leather, spine with raised bands & decorations in gilt.
