Boullaye Le Gouz, “Les Voyages et Observations du Sieur Boullaye Le Gouz,ou sont decrits les religions, gouvernements et situations des Etats Italie, Grece, Natolie, Syrie, Perse, Palestine, Karamanie, Egypte…”, publie a Troyes et se vend a Paris, 1657. Second and last edition. 4to, (24x19cm), pp.[12],558,[10]. Complete with frontispiece (portrait) and 34 fine woodcut illustrations (17 full page), depicting scenes and people of the Orient. This enlarged second edition is considered much rarer than the first edition of 1653. Francois de la Boullaye Le Gouz (1623-1668) was a pioneer traveller and his book is considered one of the very first true travel books, as it contains useful information for actual travellers of his time. First hand, very early, accurate descriptions of Greece, the Levant, Persia and India depicting vividly the local societies and places. Contemporary binding, thin original paper in some pages, resulting in small marginal repairs in few pages, some marginal water stain, but generally a very good copy of a scarce travel account. Not in Atabey or Blackmer. Very Rare.
