This volume of the Annales contains the first travel account for the catacombs of Milos, by D’Urville, the French officer who played a crucial role in the acquisition by the French of the Venus de Milo statue in 1821. Also included an important travel account on Lake Baikal, by Klaproth (and the first accurate map of it) and many other accounts on Pacific, Africa etc.
