Le Chevalier, French scholar and archaeologist, was appointed by Choiseul-Gouffier to undertake archaeological researches. After the French revolution escaped in England where he published a first version of this work on the Troade (only a text volume). The current enlarged version includes also an account of his voyage to Constantinople, via the Ionian islands, Athens and the Aegean islands and the fine Atlas. Contemporary beautiful full leather binding on text volumes, with richly elaborated gilt spines, modern binding for the Atlas, uncut large plates. A very good set of a scarce work.
