San Felipe, [Coronelli], "Acropolis / Citadella d’Atene / Dedicata… Antonio Giustinium”. Venice 1688. San Felipe was the chief engineer of the Venetian army under the command of Morosini that bombarded and occupied Acropolis. According the Venetian Senate records, just after the conquest of Athens in late September 1687, Morosini has ordered the design of a map of the famous Acropolis. The map was drawn by San Felice and its purpose was to provide a general image of the famous ancient Acropolis to the Venetian authorities. A most elaborate map has been produced immediately after by Verneda during the winter 1687/8, covering also the lower city. The Acropolis map (42x27cm) has been copper engraved by Coronelli, here as a proof and included only in the very rare “Theatri de la Cita”. Not in Zacharakis. Fine condition, first accurate particular plan of Acropolis of Athens. Extremely rare.
