Bochart Samuel, "Opera omnia - Atlas Geographia Sacra", Lugdunum Batavorum-Leiden, 1707-1712. 5th edition of the most influential work on Sacred Geography, but the second and final edition with all 13 original Bochart’s maps. 3 volumes. vol.1: 6 + 63 + 1094 + 91p., vol.2: 1 + 888 + 79p., vol.3: 3 + 44 + 1224 + 30p. Complete with 13 maps, some double-page or folded. Contemporary full leather, edges of spines restored, occasional light spotting on text, minor marginal worming in the beginning of vol.3. All maps fine with sharp impression. Bochart’s sacred geography is the first systematic effort to describe in details the ancient geography of the Bible, by attempting to identify the actual position of biblical places. Bochart’s original manuscript work (1630’s) was accompanied with 13 original maps, drawn by himself (now in BNF). The first edition (Cannes 1646), financed by Bochart, included only 4 of the maps due to high printing costs. After the success of this work, all maps were finally included in the 4th edition (1692). The same map plates were used in the current and last edition. A very influential and rare Atlas.
