Schutz Carl, “Kriegstheater oder Graenzkarte Oesterreichs, Russlands, und der Turkey, enthaltend das Koenisreich Ungarn…einen theil Griechenland und der Archipelagus….”, Vienna - Artaria, 1788. Impressive (73x50cm) very rare, separately printed in two sheets, copper engraved map of the theater of war between Austria, Russia and Turkey in 1788. The cartographic frame extends from Adriatic to the Black Sea, including all central and northern Greece and Northern Aegean. The map has been engraved by Muller, one of the best contemporary Austrian engravers (10 years later he has engraved the famous Rigas Ferraios – Ρήγας Φεραίος map of Greece). It is also a very early publication (the third) by Artaria, the oldest publishing house in Austria. Schutz Carl (1745-1800), a little known Austrian cartographer of the 18th century, produced less than 10 maps around 1780-1790, all separately printed and never included in any Atlas. Consequently, very few of his maps have survived and considered now very rare. Fine condition. Not in Zacharakis Very Rare.
