[Κόρινθος – Ισθμός Κορίνθου] Ludwig Salvator Archduke of Austria, “Eine Spazierfahrt im Golfe von Korinth”, Prag, 1876. First and only edition. Impressive Folio (30x24cm), pp.xxvii,291. Original red cloth, slightly rubbed, wear along joints & bumped corners. Complete with all 70 illustrations of landscapes and people (from original drawings) and the 2 separated printed, impressive folded maps in the pocket. A very rare work, compiled by the Austrian Archduke Ludwig (1847-1915) that has travelled all around the gulf of Korinthos as young officer. This book is the first analytical travel description of the areas around the gulf. The fine illustrations were prepared by Waldheim’s (who followed the Archduke) original drawings. The folded map and nautical chart of the Gulf (75x44cm) in scale 1:200000, is the first chromolithographed and accurate military map of the area. The second impressive (156x47cm) folded profile of the Isthmus of Korinth, is the detailed plan that has been used by the engineers for the construction of the canal in 1880. Not in Atabey or Blackmer.
