Victor Guerrin (1821-1891), French explorer and amateur archaeologist, visited Greece and the Archipelago in late 1840s. Since 1852 he became member of the French School of Athens. He spent almost a year in the two islands and he has undertaken the first archaeological excavations there. This book it is the first ever systematic - village by village - description of the islands of Patmos and Samos, in an attempt to link each place with its ancient Greek past. Contains also the first catalogue of the precious manuscripts of the monastery of Patmos. Ex libris of Pierre Barbier, French politician and senator. Extremely Rare.
