He started from Greece, visiting Athens and the surroundings, before crossing to Smyrne. Travelling for more than a year extensively across almost all Asia Minor areas (in two trips), he finally reached and wintered in Constantinople. His travels in Syria, Palestine and Egypt are stated in the 2nd volume. The account is presented in the form of letters to Michaud, another explorer of the same areas.
