"Σωκράτους Σχολαστικού και Ερμείου Σωζόμενου εκκλησιαστική ιστορία / Socratis Scholastici et Hermiae Sozomeni Historia eccleciastica”, Augustae Taurinorum (Turin), 1747. Complete: 2 volumes in one. Folio, 39x27cm, pp.380+407. Half titles, text in parallel Greek and Latin, two folded maps of religious episcopates of the East (48x35cm each) not in Zacharakis. Socrates Scholasticus and Hermias Sozomenus were 5th century historians, leaving in Constantinople. Their work covers the early stages of the Church history, with insights also on general history and societies issues. The two maps, engraved in Italy, but based in earlier French and Dutch, are apparently very rare. In middle 18th century cartographic examples produced outside of Venice and Napoli, are very rare. These maps of Sacred Geography drawn in Torino around 1746/47 are unsigned and based on French earlier prototypes ,but very important as Lirelli's early works in his youth. Lirelli will become in the following years the chief geographer of the Duc of Savoie ( Savoy). Not in Zacharakis. Contemporary half vellum, a fine copy.
