Heidenfeld Albert, "Asiatischer Schauplatz, das ist Aussfuhrliche beschreibung der Turckischen, persianischen... beherrscheren", Franckfurt, Bencard, 1678. First and only edition. The complete Levant section in two volumes (two other volumes for Muscovy and China have been published later). 12mo, pp.204+164, with all the 19 beautiful copper engraved portraits. An early, 17th century account for the Ottoman Empire and Persia. Although very few are known about Heidenfeld, it seems that he has lived in the Levant, where he probably found the fine original drawings portraits of the Ottoman emperors, Sahs and high officials which adorn the edition. These portraits differ from any other similar representations suggesting an unique primary source, like a Kiyafet (manuscript collection of paintings). The book provides a detailed account of the Ottoman empire, from its first steps to its contemporary structure and society, with the second volume dealing with Persia, the enemy of the Ottomans in the East. The book was published in a period that Europeans start to focus on Ottoman Empire, especially after the Ottoman conquest of Crete. Later full vellum. Some marginal defects in few pages expertly restored, otherwise a very clean and fine copy. An extremely rare work. Only two copies in public institutions. Not in Atabey, Blackmer or any other known collection.
