Beaufort Sir Francis, "Karamania, or a brief description of the south coast of Asia- Minor and of the Remains of Antiquity", London, R. Hunter, 1818. Second edition (enlarged). 8vo, pp. 309. Complete with 3 copper engraved charts, 3 views and a diagram. Beaufort, British hydrographer, has been selected in 1811, to survey the southern coast of Anatolia, still uncharted that time. The result of this expedition was not only a survey of the coasts, but also a full exploration of the adjacent inland and its people, including the discovery of several ancient sites. This book influenced Fellows, Spratt, Forbes and Newton, that travelled later in Asia Minor and continued Beauforts explorations. Contemporary leather over boards, few scattered spotting, but overall a very good clean copy. A very important travel account. Atabey 81 (1st edition), Blackmer 103.
