[Gorog Demeter] "Proba Rajz A Plateai Utkozetrol Az Irzu Anacharszis Utazasahoz", Februarius 1784. Copper engraved map (36x24cm) of Plataies battle, by Demeter Gorog (1760-1818), one of the first Hungarian cartographers. 18th century hand paper with insignia and signed in Hungarian. One of the very few (only 3 are known) maps of Greece published in Hungary and in Hungarian. After the publication of Anacharsis in German (Austria 1792 - lot 3312), Hungarian circles promoted an edition of Anacharsis in Hungarian and authorised Gorog, the best Magyar Cartographer of its time, to prepare the maps. The project stopped in 1794 due to the luck of funding and Gorog had engraved in copper only the three battle maps of Salamis, Marathon and Plataea. Here the map of the Plataea battle. The general map of Greece had not finished. Extremely rare, Not in Zacharakis or in any other reference. First ever Magyar map of Greek area.
