Extremely rare, separately printed, impressive copper engraved map (53x20cm) of Lefkada town and surrounding areas at the time of the Venetian attack of 1684. Light professional paper reinforcements at some edges, overall a fine copy of a unique map. The map is clearly made for military purpose, probably from an engineer-cartographer active in the battlefield as the detailed structure and its title confirms. It is published as two joint sheets along with the following lot.3324, by Rossi in Roma, in an extremely rare collection of loose plates entitled "Teatro della Guerra contro il Turco" (Sylvia Ioannou B2140), as the different number on its copy confirm (Zacharakis 827, under Cantelli). As Zacharakis states (Zacharakis 826a), these plates had been also issued separately and not always jointed. Most probably, the cartographer was not Cantelli but Alberti, as Zacharakis 89a mentions for another almost similar issue of the current map. It is very probable that Alberti, a Venetian engineer-cartographer that was present in Lefkada as officer is the cartographer of this map. As Christies report confirms, only three copies of the "Teatro contro il Turco" exist in Public institutions worldwide and two copies have appeared in the market the last 40 years. Extremely Rare.
