Folio (35x23cm), pp.442+60+34 copper engraved plates (including 10 maps). Shaw travelled extensively in the Mediterranean and the Levant. Blackmer notes that his book is valuable for its accurate descriptions along the fields of antiquities, geography and natural history. Gibbon praised him and considered his book as an excellent example of typography. The Cyprus section is full of precious details for the island. Provenance: ex-libris (coat of arms) of Sir Francis Bowes (1684-1749), judge of the Royal Court. Contemporary full leather ,a very good copy. Blackmer 1133, Not in Atabey.
