First edition of an extremely rare early copper engraved Atlas of contemporary Sacred Geography. In 12mo. The Atlas contains 17 maps in total (15 double-page) covering the world and presenting the Ecclesiastic administrative divisions. Although several maps of Ancient Sacred Geography had been published, this is the first ever world Atlas of contemporary Religion Geography. It is the rarest Duvals Atlas. The map of Greeceincluding Crete and the Ionian islands, is very rare (Zacharakis 3604). The Atlas contains only the free Christian Ecclesiastic divisions (including Russian, schismatic as it is called), but not the Churches under Muslim rule. Crete had fallen in 1669 while the Atlas was printed few years earlier in 1662. It is the last map of Christian Ecclesiastic divisions on the island.
