Vol.I: Greece and Turkey with 10 plates, Vol.III-IV: Egypt, Syria,Persia with 18 plates, Vol.V with 13 plates. Covering the two travels of Thevenot, not present a travel in Egypt. Contemporary full leather slightly rubbed. Several plates folded, text and plates very clean. A very good set with all/volume 41 beautiful copper engravings. The first section of Thevenots travel was published in 1664, while he was revisiting the Levant. Two more travel sections have been published later (in total three and separately printed). All these 17th century editions had no plates. The current 1727 edition is the first and only containing wonderful copper plates, engraved after original paintings by Johannes Luyken, one of the best Dutch painters that visited theLevant. Thevenot started his travels in 1655. He describes Constantinople, the Aegean Archipelago and Asia Minor. Later in 1663 he travelled through Syria and Persia up to India. He died in Tabriz in 1667.
