Breitenbauch August, "Plan der Stadt ATHEN",1794 (dated), no place of publ., but Leipzig. Georg August von Breitenbauch was a famous German Historian and Geographer. He published in 1794 the scientific work: "Beschreibung des Alten Athens" in a very small print run (150 copies). All Breitenbauchs publications were of great scientific importance and although he has published several important books, today they are mostly considered very rare. This copper engraved map (35x33cm) of Athens comes from this publication. It is the first scientific effort to accurately place all the ancient monuments in a modern map. The map is full of details and extremely accurate for its time. Folded as issued, crease on the lower part, but overall very good condition of an apparently very rare plan. Not in Zacharakis or any other reference.
