Kenneth Matthews, "Greek Salad, an autobiography of Greek travel", London, Peter Davies, 1935. 8vo, pp.318, [1]. Original light blue cloth, rubbed. A very interesting account of Greece and the Greeks of the 1930s written by the writer and BBC broadcaster Kenneth Albert Matthews. Matthews acquired deep knowledge of modern Greece serving as a teacher at the prestigious Greek boarding school “Αναργύρειος Σχολή” on the island of Spetsai, with his experiences published in the current issue. After the war he served as BBCs correspondent, covering the Greek civil war. In October 1948 he was captured by a Communist armed band at Mycenae and held prisoner in the Peloponnese for 16 days. Scarce.
