Antonini: "Itinerarium Provinciarum Antonini Augusti", [together] "Dionysii Africani De Orbis", [together] P. Victoris: "Regionibus Urbis", Lugdunum (Lyon), Haeredes Simonis Vincentii, [1545]. 8vo, 16x11cm, pp.206. Complete. Fine engraved press marks on title and at the last page, modern binding, imitating early 16th century Rennaissance paper binding. Second edition of one of the earlier travel accounts in human history, the Antonini Itinerary and two other Roman geography works in very early editions. The Itinerary of Emperor Antoninus is a famous Roman itinerarium , a register of the stations and distances along various roads. It contains also a maritime part, describing the islands of the Mediterranean. It is traditionally ascribed to the patronage of 2nd century Antoninus Pius, but contains also later additions. Seemingly based on official Roman documents, it describes the roads of the Empire, providing unique contemporary geographical information for the Balkans and the area of the Eastern Mediterranean. A unique travel account. RARE
