Henricpetri, 1595. 8vo 17x11cm, Complete: two parts with continuous pagination: (32)-398-(2): 32 fine woodcut plates with 36 maps, most folded, title page lightly soiled, light marginal dampstains, margins toned, few plates slightly trimmed and misfold, 18th century vellum in fine condition, flat spine, red sprinkled edges. A very good copy. A Roman geographical manual, a Cosmographia, with annotations by Johannes Oporinus (pp. 102-132). The second part contains the “Polyhistor” or “De mirabilibus mundi” of Solinus, description of the “wonders”. This late 16th century edition by Henricpetri, is THE ONLY ONE RICHLY ILLUSTRATED. It contains 36 fine 16th century maps, printed on 32 leaves. The first part is decorated with 20 newly drawn maps based on Ptolemaic tradition covering the Mediterranean world. The second part is illustrated with 16 newly drawn maps of islands (illustrating many Greek islands, Zacharakis 2590-2595), forming a kind of Isolario. Henricpetri’s device on reverse of last leaf.
