[D Aucour C.], “Memoires Turcs par un auteur Turc de toutes les academies Mahometanes…. de Constantinople”, Amsterdam, 1776. Second edition (Nouvelle edition). In 8vo, 17x10cm, pp. [16], 176, 238 and the 4 copper engraved plates. Contemporary full leather slightly rubbed, spine richly gilt. Complete, with a half titl & a copper engraved title. A scarce book describing everyday life in the Ottoman Levant in the middle of 18th century, through the description of the life of two young Turks in Paris. Although it is written that the author is a Turk, the real author of the book was Claude Godard d’ Aucour (1716-1795). The close connections of many French people with the Ottomans is firmly attested in this book and this blend will form the Levantine culture. Not in Atabey or Blackmer.
