Barthelemy A., “Recueil de Cartes Geographiques de l’Ancienne Grece relatives au voyage du jeune Anacharsis”, Paris, 1788. FISRT edition. Large 4to, uncut copy, 28x22cm. Contemporary hard boards rubbed. Complete: title, 40p. of text and the 31 copper engraved maps (many with contemporary outline colour) and views. Few spotting and marginal waterstain in two-three plates at the end, otherwise very good. Anacharsis Atlas was the first comprehensive wide collection of maps for Greece of the 18th century, and the first reaching sufficient standards of accuracy. The first edition is scarce. The plates had been re-engraved in the following editions of 1789 and after.
