Lot 03080 |

Jouannin, “La Turquie”, Paris, 1840. First edition. Complete. Pp. 462 and the ninety six(96) lithographed plates. 8vo, 23x15cm. An uncut large copy, contemporary leather over boards, inside clean, some very little scattered spotting. A very a good copy. Jouannin was certainly the best to provide a detailed and trusty account of the Ottoman Levant for the Univers serie, as he was the dragoman of the French embassy in Constantinople for 20 years and a honored explorer of the Levant. The work is richly illustrated with 96 plates, including fine views of many places of the Levant and of contemporary people. Atabey 622, Blackmer 889.
