Goupil Fesquet F., “Voyage d’Hornace Vernet en Orient”, Paris, [1843]. FIRST edition. 4to, 26x17cm, pp. 228 and 15 fine lithographed plates (all in very good condition),colored by a contemporary hand. Contemporary fine blind-stamped cloth with gilt ornaments, slightly faded and rubbed, inside some scattered light spotting, mostly clean. A very good copy. Horace Vernet (1789-1863), a famous Orientalist French painter, travelled to the Levant in 1839 visiting the newly independent Greece, the Holy Land and Egypt. Based on original paintings, the lithographed plates are among the best of their time, richly coloured by the painter’s team under his own instructions. RARE.
