Hornby E., “In and around Stamboul”, London 1858. First and only edition. In 8vo 21x13cm, fine contemporary green publishers blinded hard boards, inside clean. Complete, two volumes, pp. [10], 320, [8], 292. Overall a fine set. Mrs Edmund Hornby (1826-1866) was one of the very few female authors of books for the Levant during mid 19th century. She stayed a longtime in Constantinople during the Crimean war and she was able, as a lady, to study to the female part of the Muslim society and disclose its secrets. According L. Navari (Atabey catalogue) the In and around Stamboul has been published in a limited edition. It was missing in Atabey collection. EXTREMELY RARE. Not in Atabey or Blackmer
