Grente M., “Une mission dans le Levant”, Paris 1922. First edition. Large 8vo 23x16cm, original papercovers, inside clean, complete 348p. A very good copy. Grente travelled to the Levant in late 1919 and described accurately the countries just after the war. He had visited Syria and Palestine before his arrival in Athens, in early 1920 where he met Politis, the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs. Politis convinced him to visit Smirni, which was then under Greek rule. Grente followed his suggestions and met Stergiadis there, the Greek High Comissioner, before continuing his periplous to Constantinople. An interesting travel account with vivid descriptions.
