Godlewski Fr., “Wsrod Zniewazanych Bogow z Podrozy na Wshood” (Among the abandoned Gods or Travel in the Levant), Warszawa 1930. First edition. In 4to 25x17cm, contemporary hardboards preserving publisher’s paperboards, complete 140p. A very good copy. Franciszek Godlewski (1834-1862), a Polish conspirator against the Russian rule, escaped from Poland and travelled to the Levant in the late 1850s. His manuscript travel account remained unpublished. He travelled via the Ionian islands to Egypt, later to Palestine and Syria before visiting Constantinople. From there he entered Greece, visiting Athens and areas around. A very rare travel account for Greece and the Levant, published only in the original Polish. The 1930 publication has been adorned with contemporary photos of the places visited by Golewski much earlier, in 1850s. VERY RARE.
