Atlas Volume, in original publishers portfolio, complete sixty eight (68) Folio plates and in fine condition. Overall a very good copy. After the liberation of Thessaloniki in 1913 a team of French Byzantinist started to study for the first time, the Christian Byzantine monuments and discovered their hidden treasures. As some of them destroyed during the great fire of 1917, this publication is the only available source for them. Especially for many fine mosaics of St Demetrius Chruch, almost completely destroyed in 1917, these representations are the only survived example and the photos and designs of St Demetrius in this publication were the only available source for the reconstruction of the church. It is very difficult to find the text and the Atlas together, as the unique and splendid Atlas plates had been prepared by Saladin and Tourneau and published separately. They include unique views of most of Thessaloniki’ s Christian monuments and form one of the best collections ever published for Thessaloniki. This scientific publication had a very limited print run and it is AN IMPRESSIVE WORK AND EXTREMELY RARE.
