Gautier Th., “Constantinople”, Paris, 1873. Nouvelle edition. Contemporary cloth over boards. Text with some scattered spotting. Complete, 364p. A good copy. Theophile Gautier (1811-1872) was a French poet and journalist. He had visited the Levant several times during late 1840s and early 1850s. As a poet, his travel account for Constantinople and the area is full of the lyrism of the Victorian era, but the description is very accurate. The account includes also a description of Syra and other Greek islands.
