[Anonymous], "Beschryving van de Koningrijken Hungarien, Dalmatien en Morea", Amsterdam, 1687. First and only edition. Contemporary full vellum slightly soiled, complete [2], 32p., 84p., 115p., some contemporary marginalia in the two first empty leaves, very good condition. The anonymous author of this work, probably was a Dutch officer of the Venetian army in Morea, who had returned in his native country and wanted to celebrate the Christian victories in Greece and the Levant. The work starts with an eyewitness account of the capture of Nafplio by the Venetians in late 1686 and reports from the other fronts on the actual situation of the Christian Ottoman war (32p.). The second part (84p.) deals with Hungary and Dalmatia and seems to have information from other sources. Finally the biggest part (115p.) is a fine first hand, very detailed, description of many places in south Greece, mainly in Morea, visited by the author during the campaign. It starts with Navarino, Methoni and Koroni, the landing places of the Venetians and continue in Kalamata, Mistra, Mani, Monemvasia, Argos, several other captured castles etc. Follows a detailed description of the Ionian islands, where the supply bases of the Venetians were and finishes with Megara, Athens, Nafpactos and Euboea where the Venetian army operated in early 1687. Very precious travel account, full with unique information. Only two copies in the public libraries worldwide (in Netherlands). Not in Atabey, Blackmer or other known collection. Extremely rare.
