Fine scarce edition of the classical work of Denis Petau (Petavius in Latin, 1583-1652), a famous French theologian, scholar and cosmographer, on ancient and religious history and geography. It is the first so richly illustrated with 6 splendid maps (four folded maps, depicting the east and the west parts of ancient and medieval world, circa 45x40cm each, signed by Van der Aa and dated 1710 (neither in Zacharakis) and two folded, circa 30x20cm each & unsigned, depicting the travels of the Apostles and the world after Strabo (neither in Zacharakis). Small 4to, 21x14cm, contemporary full vellum, complete engraved frontis, title with engraved vignette, 30p.,918p.,10p., 8 full page engravings and the 6 splendid folded copper engraved maps after Van der Aa. Occasional scattered spotting in few pages, overall in very good condition.
