["Scenes in the Morea or, a Sketch of the life of Demetrius Argyri”, Sherwood, Jones & Company, 1824]. The work is published during the Greek War of Independence. Within the frame of Philhellenism, this fictional historical novel presents the adventures of Demetrius, a son of a merchant at Calamata, educated and lived in Germany and England that returned back to his country under the Turkish rule. His adventures are presented under a determined spirit of resistance to the Turk enemy. The author is possibly the historical novelist & poet Sir Walter Scott. Missing title-page and preface. 8vo, pp.253, 3. Contemporary binding: leather spine & marbled paper covers. External wear. Very rare. Tracked in very few libraries. Rarely offered for sale.
