BRULE Van Den Al., "Le Bluff Macedonien", Paris, Felix Juven, 1904. Large 8vo, pp.208, including numerous full-page and in text photographs. Brule’s very rare account is based on first-hand experiences gained during his travels there in (1900-1903?). His travelogue begins at Thessaloniki and continues northern to Uskub (Skopje), Monastir (Bitola) and again back to Thessaloniki before returning back to France. He provides vivid descriptions of these areas, organized then in Ottoman Vilayets, focusing on the composition of the different ethnicities, people’s way of life and the reformations and conflicts of an area in the eve of the Macedonian Struggle. His descriptions are accompanied by numerous and rare photographic material, collected during his travels. His political opinions heavily rely on the opinions of the French politician, diplomat, Classical scholar and author V. Bérard. Half leather binding, impressed title on spine, carton boards. Rather loose binding inside, scattered blue pen marks, otherwise good copy. Very Rare.
