In 1: 200. 000 scale, the first scientific map of any Greek area. Including the seventh sheet, 60x40cm, with maps of Navarino, Mantinia and Messini, in more detailed scale. Complete. Few contemporary marginal manuscript inscriptions, overall in very good condition. According Ploutoglou, Pazarli and Livieratos (“Two emblematic French maps of Peloponneese”, Thessaloniki University 2013), with the arrival of French troops, under the “Expédition de Morée” in 1828, the French General Staff ordered the preparation of a detailed map using systematic geodetic and topographical measurements in the largest until then scale. The geodetic work started in 1829 and completed in 1831. The detailed initial work was rigorous, including height measurements, but the delay made the French to decide a simplification of the procedures on the field. Peytier (1793-1864) a specialist engineer-geodesist was the chief of the French team. Although the result was not as detailed as expected, this map was the best ever produced for any part of Greece and the first scientific map of Greece, using triangulation methods.
