Recensuit, & Notas suas addidit Josephus Wasse. Editionem curavit... Carolus Andreas Dukerus...” Amstelaedami, Apud R. & J. Wetstenios & Gul. Smith, M.DCC.XXXI. [1731].

Folio, [32], 34, 728, 48, 123 + 2 folding maps. Text in Greek with parallel translation in Latin, preface, comments, indexes in Latin.

Engraved frontispiece by J.C. Philips after G.F.L. Debrie, headpiece by Folkema, dedication text to Christian Heinrich von Watzdorf with impressive vignette, engraved initials, chapter ornaments, printer’s device on title page.

The current edition is considered one of the best, printed under the supervision of the German classical scholar Carl Andreas Duker, which has utilized the 16th century translation of Henricus Stephanus (Henri Estienne II), with the annotation and comments of the English classical scholars John Hudson & Joseph Wasse. He also included two folded maps published only once in Amsterdam for the current edition by Wetstein & Smith, entitled:

“Graetia Antiqua ad Thucydidis Historiam accomodata, Amstelodami, R. & I. Wetstenii et G. Smith” (Zacharakis 3692) and

“Sicilia ad Thucydidis Historiam, Amstelodami, R. & I. Wetstenii et G. Smith”

Contemporary bibding. Spine & covers heavily worn, interior in very good condition with only occasional spotting and soiling.

An Impressive and very rare work along Thucydides History of the Peloponnesian War, incorporating all possible for the time sources and works of contemporary classic scholars,  and enhancing  the publication with the two rare folding maps.
